Sensation Play, also known as sensory play, is the practice where you or your partner use different objects or ways to engage with the 5 senses (sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing) and bring a pleasurable experience (or painful one, that can be pleasurable too).

Sensory Play can mean a lot of things, there are different “types” of sensory play. Some of them are more harsh than others and engage in painful activities, for example: using clams in some parts of your body. While some other of them are more gentle, for example: blindfolding yourself or your partner.

There are plenty of techniques to put your senses into practice, from using ice cubes to doing bondage suspension, depending on how deep you want to get into sensation play.

How can you start with Sensation Play?

As Jasmine explained, there’s no need to enter the sensory play world with a partner. And there’s no need to know what you are doing. Your senses are working all day every day, so the task here is to pay attention to what you actually like when it comes to senses and sexuality. You can start by wondering which of your senses causes you more arousal. Is it touch? Is it sound? Maybe smell?

Wander around that and when you find out which sense is your go-to (or maybe multiple of your senses can cause you to feel aroused, and the possibilities keep expanding) and then focus on the intensity you’d like to feel. Starting light is an option, and starting harsh is also an option, everything depends on what you’d like, other experiences you had and whether you want to do it with yourself or with a partner.
