Healthcare and the Right to Sexual Freedom
Carnal Theory with Elizabeth Anne Wood and Rachel Music.
In our latest episode of Carnal Theory, we chat with the author of Bound: A Daughter, a Domme, and an End-of-Life Story, Elizabeth Anne Wood, and the narrator for the recently released audiobook version of it, Rachel Music, about the story behind the book.
“You can’t talk about caregiving without talking about sexuality. You can’t talk about sexuality as if it is this separate part of our lives, that it doesn’t intersect with every other part of our lives.” — Elizabeth Anne Wood
Elizabeth’s Carnal Theories link sexuality, illness, caregiving and mortality. She writes about their difficult intersectionality in her book, based on the journey of her mother discovering her sexually dominant kinks later in life and only shortly before developing terminal cancer.
Rachel Music landed the narration role by reaching out to Elizabeth herself after feeling personally connected to the project from her past experience with a mother in hospice and life as a previous BDSM sex worker. Rachel’s personal connection to the story helped her to fully inhabit the emotional journey that Elizabeth writes about. It’s a beautiful and honest collaboration that reminds us how sexuality permeates in all of our lives.
“Sexuality should not be viewed as a static, stand alone state of being.” — Rachel Music
